Description

IM3: Imagen Molecular y Multimodalidad is a spanish research network aimed at promoting the cooperation and collaborative work between researchers, developers and users of technology and knowledge in advanced medical imaging. It involves 32 nodes subdvided into groups. Node 23 (Polytechnical University of Catalonia) is composed of 4 groups. We are the group Informática Gráfica (LSI).

Objectives

The design of the interface of applications has been identified as one of the most time-consuming task of  a project. Existing toolkits for the design of interfaces are often complex to learn and use. In addition, not all of them are portable to any operating system. Besides, discussions between different groups of the Red IM3 have shown that most of the groups that develop biomedical imaging software have a lot of common requirements in their interfaces. The aim of our project is to develop a portable and free graphical library, that provides tools for the fast creation of interfaces for biomedical imaging software.

Results

BioMedIGU is  a portable and free  library constructed over Gtk-mm,  that provides tools for the fast creation of interfaces for biomedical imaging software. Its main features are:

1. A windows management system
2. An interface constructor  through a formatted text file<>
3. Customized windows:

•  A Menu window: for the creation of menus
•  An Options window: for the user input of parameters   
•  A Wizard window: for the implementation  of wizard-assisted user input of parameters
•  A Graphical window: for graphical display using OpenGL
•  An Images window : for the display of  images
•  A 2D editor window: for the visualization of histograms, the creation of transfer functions and look-up tables
•  A Lists window: for the creation, selection and update of lists of items
•  A Wizard window: for the implementation  of wizard-assisted user input of parameters
